The Key Fashion Trends from the Spring Summer 2024 Collections

October 18, 2023

Spring is the season of renewal, and with it comes an abundance of new fashion trends to bring freshness into our wardrobes. From the elevated leisurewear seen at Tibi and Victoria Beckham to the playful geometric prints at Etro and Stella McCartney, this season’s style trends offer in abundance the sense of laidback-yet-elevated chic that we at GRACE always gravitate towards.

Combining both ends of the fashion spectrum on our recent buying trips to fashion capitals New York, Milan and Paris, we saw everything from striking eveningwear to understated street style designs. The Spring Summer ‘24 collections have something for everyone with the distinctive variations on classic staples and exciting modern takes on past favourites. Keep reading for some of our favourite highlights that we can’t wait to bring you in store and online at GRACE!

THE COLOUR OF THE SEASON: RED

The pop of colour prevalent in so many collections for SS24 saw engine red reign supreme. First walking down the runway in New York from designers Proenza Schouler and Tibi, both brands incorporated the fiery hue into their dresses and knitwear, with further touches in fiery footwear and accessories.

How do we see this bold colour translating into your everyday wardrobe? Opt for a bold red maxi dress for a confident approach, or alternatively, throw on a chunky red knit jumper or a sleek silk cami with your favourite jeans for a casual yet chic outfit. Whether it's a bright red statement piece or a more subdued shade, there's a way for everyone to incorporate this bold colour into their wardrobe - the key is to have fun with it, maybe mirroring the tone in your nail or lip colour, and a cheeky red bra strap peaking out from a red knit.

RELAXED TAILORING

Perhaps as a subtle psychological response to the past few years, the runways were all about relaxed shapes, loose silhouettes, and comfortable fabrics. Pieces of sophisticated yet relaxed clothing that elevate but provide immense comfort at the same time. The idea of ‘quiet luxury’ which is about so much more than obviously showing what brand one is wearing. Blazers and pants have been given a modern update, with a more relaxed, slouchy fit and softer draping that will be an instant update to your usual 9-to-5 attire. Blazé Milano's collection showcased their exquisite craftsmanship with a mix of stunning muted and jewel toned hues and of course their exquisite detailing. Victoria Beckham's collection, presented in the opulent former residence of Karl Lagerfeld on Paris’s Left Bank, defined modern elegance with a relaxed and effortless sophistication that the brand is so well known for. This departure from the rigid and formal tailoring of the past seasons is a welcome change, and we're excited to incorporate this approach into our wardrobes for day or night. Clothing that practically drips off the wearer is completely appealing, feeling as though you threw on your outfit yet you look incredibly chic!

BALLET FLATS

While ballet flats are not new, it has been several years since they have taken a back seat to the ever-present designer sneaker, or more recently, loafer. While all flat shoes continue to be the shoe of choice for day to day wear, the ballet flat has burst back to head the line up. Hand in hand with the newer, slouchier pant silhouettes and longer hemlines, the ballet flat stars because it adds a demure feminine balance to the rest of the modern silhouette. Want to wear baggy jeans and a crop shirt without feeling overwhelmingly masculine? The ballet flat is your answer.

The SS24 collections proved that the appeal of the ballet flat is immense; comfortable yet stylish, these flats are the ultimate style statement for the season (and beyond). Look to fashion powerhouses like Stella McCartney and Chloé for their stunning collections that feature a beautiful curation of timeless ballet flats. These styles feature delicate designs, detailed with subtle perforations and modern lace-up silhouettes that will finish off any outfit perfectly. Whether paired with flowing summer dresses or a relaxed trouser suit, a pair of ballet flats is the perfect finishing touch.

SLOUCHY & OVERSIZE DENIM

If it wasn’t already clear, skinny denim needs to be relegated to the back of your closet. Get ready to up your denim game this year, because the SS24 collections have brought us the ultimate trend in slouchy and oversized denim. From the classic American denim label of Mother Denim to modern interpretations from Alexander Wang, it's all about relaxed fits and loose shapes. This trend (that we predict will be around for a while to come) isn't just limited to classic jeans, we're talking about oversized denim jackets and shirts too. Whether you prefer a low-waisted or high-rise style, the slouchy and oversized trend has got you covered. Whether you're running errands or heading to brunch with the girls, these denim pieces are the perfect choice for a chic and relaxed look, and contrary to some thought, are incredibly flattering too!

COMPLETE COORDINATION

One of the key looks from the SS24 collections is coordinating sets. Many luxury brands such as Golden Goose and Etro have embraced this trend by offering silk sets that exude effortless elegance. And who doesn't love matching leisurewear? From bold prints to neutral hues, there are plenty of options to choose from to elevate your wardrobe this season. This trend offers endless possibilities to mix and match pieces from your own wardrobe, creating fresh and cohesive looks. Whether you opt for solids or elegant prints, experiment with different fabrications and accessories to make the outfit truly your own.

A SEASON FOR PRINTS: STRIPES & POLKA DOTS

When it comes to prints for the new season, stripes and polka dots are taking centre stage. Designers like Victoria Beckham have mastered the art of shirting, creating crisp lines and timeless striped patterns that inspire confidence and elegance. Meanwhile, Stella McCartney has incorporated playful polka dots into her collection of dresses, adding a touch of whimsy to the floor length gowns and mini styles that were seen on the runway. The use of these patterns was elegant and confident, lending a sense of sophistication to each piece. Whether you opt for classic stripes or statement-making dots, these trends are sure to turn heads and make a statement this season.
