The GRACE Girl Style Series - LUCY

September 21, 2017
Our latest Grace girl featured on The Journal is Lucy!

A gorgeous mother of two, Lucy is our resident fashion mama with functional, chic style to suit her busy lifestyle chasing after her vibrant tweenagers.
When not utilising her keen sartorial eye at Grace you'll likely find Lucy cheering from the sidelines at one of the many extra-curricular activities her kids partake in.
Read on to see how Lucy balances work and home life... all while looking effortlessly fabulous! Plus, her tips on how to re-work a statement piece into multiple looks (thereby ensuring your cost-per-wear ratio) is a big TICK.
Where does your style stem from? Has anyone in particular influenced you?
I've always been a magazine girl... so I love to keep up to date with things via print. I love to relax with a cup of tea and a new mag! My fashion crushes include Pernille Teisbaek, Gwyneth Paltrow, Margot Robbie and Rosie Huntington-Whitely. And of course having a peek after Ilana has been on a buying trip overseas is also a real perk! It gives us the insight as to what is coming, what pieces will work back with what I have and what to look forward to the most!

Describe your style in three words?
Functional, Fashionable & Classic

What's one piece of clothing you can't live without?
Definitely jeans!
They are my daily canvas, as they can be worn every which way - casually with a sneaker or a more polished look with a loafer, heel or boot. Each style serves a different purpose, skinny with a boot, straight with sneakers or a heel and I do love a jean with a little kick. Recently though I've developed a love for high rise jeans and I'll never go back, they are all I can wear now!
Now that Winter has well and truly hit, my go-to outfit is an oversized cardigan with my jeans. Right now on high rotation are the 3.1 Phillip Lim pearl detail, MSGM leopard & Cecilie Copenhagen saffron styles. And of course being a Grace girl I'm wearing them with the dreamy tissue tees from Proenza SchoulerWhat is your no-fail mama outfit for a day of running errands?
I wasn't joking when I said denim is my go-to. You never know who you might run into doing a market shop, so I love pairing my jeans with a good standout sweat. Proenza Schouler's contemporary line PSWL is delivering some super chic sweats and tees. The dip-dye watermelon tee has just come home with me!

Name your absolute favourite piece in-store right now. How are you styling it from day to night?
I am so in love with our recent delivery from Yves Salomon Meteo. In particular, the navy chevron fur. Rather than saving this piece for a special occasion, I see it as one to just wear everyday and enjoy!
You'll see me wearing it over my run-around jeans look, out to lunch with a white pant and Vaille cashmere and a pair of statement mules from Proenza Schouler. Then for night, team it with the twin floral set from Mother Of Pearl or the Petar Petrov metallic blouse and jeans.

Your fave pair of jeans right now?
Can I pick one for each day of the week?!
Frame's 'Le Sylvie' for a straight leg, Mother's 'The Hustler' in Not Guilty for a slight kick and the new skinny straight leg 'The Mari' from AG.
Frame Denim Le Sylvie JeansTell us your tall girl styling tips.
Ohhh geez...sometimes being tall is tricky - sleeves and leg length are quite often too short. But as with any height or shape, the key is to just work with what you've got and to get the sizing right. I am always drawn to longer styles such as midi skirts and full length pants that I know will work.

What are your go-to brands?
I'm not overly set on just a few brands, there are so many out there that appeal to me! But my top picks would have to be 3.1 Phillip Lim, Proenza Schouler & PSWL, Petar Petrov and Victoria Beckham. Another fashion crush I should have mentioned previously is Stella McCartney. She is so stunning and her fashion ethos is so conscious and beautiful. We are all incredibly excited as we await our imminent first drop from the brand!

Where are you off to on your next holiday? What will you be packing?
Amsterdam, Paris and Greece are calling and I cannot wait!! It will still be hot, and I'll be doing lots of walking, so my new Raffia Birkenstocks will be the first item I pack! Our Cecilie Copenhagen tie-dye slip dress will be great for Greece, and the Etre Cecile check jumpsuit for Amsterdam. I'm also seeing myself wandering around Paris in Phillip Lim's dreamy cotton belted midi dress! Santorini Greece White Buildings
What wardrobe gaps do you currently have?
A good puffer jacket for running around and to keep me warm on the sidelines of my kids sporting events. The MSGM leopard print puffer ticks that box. I'm also eagerly awaiting the impending arrival of our new season Vaille cashmere knits, the colours are perfect.

When I'm not at GRACE, I like to....
be with my family x
